About

Product renders for an analog drum machine

It started with an email from Jeff at System80 in Toronto. He had been following my work on Instagram for a long time, and they were about to release a desktop version of the 880, their 808-inspired drum machine. Could I model it with the same level of detail as my TB-303 artwork?

Jeff sent me his CAD models and the panel artwork for every screen print colour, and then a production sample all the way from Toronto, so I could work from the real machine. Even the paper labels on the Start/Stop and Tap buttons come from the same sheet they print and cut for the real thing. And I got to keep the sample, which still makes me very happy.

After a few rounds of small tweaks, the result went beyond what Jeff had hoped for. One of the friendliest clients I've ever worked with. Must be a Canadian thing.
