Xiaomi - MIX Fold 2

For the launch of Xiaomi’s MIX Fold 2, designer and good friend Rutger Paulusse invited me to bring his wallpaper designs to life. Rutger has worked with Xiaomi’s design team on several wallpaper projects over the years, and for this foldable he developed a set of four colorways. I joined him to take care of all the animation.

Together we worked toward three animated wallpapers built around a bold, raw direction: simple, deliberately unpolished texturing and strong shapes, rather than the glossy look you usually see on phone screens. My job was to give those forms motion that feels as playful and direct as the designs themselves, while working within the constraints of a wallpaper. It has to loop, it has to stay calm enough to sit behind your apps, and it has to work on a folding display.

It was a great collaboration. Xiaomi’s direction was sharp throughout, and working closely with Rutger made the process fast and fun. I’d love to push this style further.
